Chris' Journey to Japan

Current Location

Hachioji, Japan

Over the next year, I will be studying abroad in Hachioji, Japan, at Soka University. Located right outside the heart of Tokyo, Hachioji offers both a rural and urban perspective of Japan.

I've now been in Hachioji for exactly two months! It's so crazy to think that it's been that long already. A lot has changed but a lot has also stayed the same. Let's dive in!

I can't believe it's already been three months and our time together is coming to a close. In this entry, I will reflect on my experiences thus far and talk about what I have learned.

Field Notes

For many foreigners, Japan's waste collection system and detailed recycling rules can be very confusing. However, they have helped keep Japan clean over the years.

Vending machines are probably one of the most well-known things in Japan, aside from manga and anime. Canned food, umbrellas, flowers, toys, drinks - Japanese vending machines have it all!
