Awas! Caution!

Introduction:

Did you know that in Malaysia, they drive on the opposite side of the street compared to the U.S.? That's right! And, the steering wheel of a car or bus can be found on the right side of the vehicle instead of the left!

How do people get around?:

People get around in a few different ways. They get around by car, motorbike (like a motorcycle), bicycle, taxi, monorail (train), bus and by walking. The public bus is a purple colored bus. It is free to ride! The monorail is a just few ringgit. Taxis are the most expensive form of transportation. But that is what you would expect in the U.S. too!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

So far I have used all modes of transportation except for a motorbike. My favorite has been the monorail because it is very quiet and it has very big windows. Many of the train tracks are above ground and are as high as the highway. You get a really good view of the city.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

KL is known for a lot of traffic. You may not have to drive too far, but a 20-minute ride could become an hour ride if there is a lot of afternoon traffic.

There is something the locals call "Malaysian time". That means if you have a meeting at 1:00 PM people may not arrive until 1:30 PM.
