¡Vamos en moto!

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I haven't ridden in a motorcycle yet! I did get to ride one in Chile, with my host brother, and it was a bit scary. He kept weaving between cars, and at one point a dog came chasing after us, trying to bite our legs. The driving style there is similar to Uruguay's; in my Fulbright director's words, manejan como locos ("they drive like crazy people"). If I get on the back of a motorcycle here, it will only be with someone who I really trust. For now, I'm happy to go by car with my mentor teachers!

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Motorcyles are smaller and cheaper than cars, and can often handle rugged country roads. Since Salto is situated in a more rural area where many people live with fewer resources, it makes sense that these people would travel by motorcycle. Also, since public transportation is not an option, people need to have a car or motorcycle to get to work.
