Traveler Bio

Hello! My name is Amanda Medaries (med-air-is). I was born and raised in a small town called Monroe, Louisiana. I am 24 years old, which makes me the oldest of my four other siblings. I am a huge nature nerd so all of my hobbies are outside! I love to hike, camp or just walk around aimlessly and listen to the birds! In 2016 I packed my things and my cat and headed to Arkansas, where I started my journey studying wildlife conservation. I have worked with all kinds of wildlife, but my favorite so far has been conducting bat surveys by capturing and releasing them!

Thanks to the incredible Gilman Scholarship, I am currently a senior studying aquatic ecosystem health at North West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa! I am beyond thrilled to be able to share my journey through this country with all of you. Get ready for some amazing pictures and videos showing you just what South Africa is all about. Cheers!
