Allya's Journey to Malaysia

Current Location

Kuala Krau, Pahang, Malaysia

Since January, I have been living in Kuala Krau, Pahang, Malaysia while working as an English teacher. The school I work in is a secondary school, with students ages 12-17.

This weekend I went to my friend Nicole's school to volunteer at an event she hosted. Afterward, I took a bus to Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. Come along with me!

The general election just occurred in Malaysia and, to everyone's surprise, the government has changed parties for the first time in Malaysia's history.

Field Notes

Malaysia is a tropical country located near the equator, so naturally, it is very, very hot here. This presents a challenge (and an opportunity!) to the people who live in the area.

During Ramadan, a month-long holiday, Muslim people do not eat or drink from sunrise until sunset. Ramadan bazaars are popular for selling food and drinks to break the fast.
