Introduction to a New Chapter: A New First!
On my first day at a university in Korea, I feel both thrilled and humbled. It's like experiencing another "first day of school" all over again. I am excited about the growth that I anticipate in my Korean language skills. Every day just being here feels surreal because I can't believe I'm having another first day of school, but this time, it's in another country! I'm so grateful for the Gilman scholarship and other scholarships I received, which have made this all possible.
A Unique Campus Setting: It's a Steep Learning Curve (literally)
In contrast to my university in America, the campus here in Yeosu, Korea, is surrounded by mountains, contrasting the nearby Yeosu beaches. As 70% of Korea is mountainous, the Yeosu campus terrain tends to be quite hilly, giving me an intense morning workout as I walk to class. My schedule is tightly packed, starting with four-hour-long Korean language classes, followed by Korean media and film courses. This additional exposure has been really great for my thesis work
