¡Bienvenidos a España! (Welcome to Spain!)

Location:
Salamanca, Spain
Journal Entry:

Bienvenidos! I am so excited to share my journey through Spain with you! But first let me tell you a little bit about myself and the beautiful country I am in.

Spain is in the continent of Europe, so that is just a hop across the Atlantic Ocean from the United States. Actually, a hop might be a little bit of an exaggeration. It took me eight-and-a-half hours by plane to fly here, and my time zone is 6 hours later than yours. So, because I’m writing this at 7pm in Spain, it is 1pm in the US. It’s pretty crazy to think about how far away I am from my friends and family. I’ll first share a little bit about how I ended up this far away, and then I’ll tell you why Spain is such a great place to study.

I am from a little town in upstate New York called Canandaigua. I lived there for my entire life. I went to the same school, knew the same people, and always did all the same activities. The only thing my hometown is known for is our lake, which gets a little boring after awhile. Although, I really love that small corner of the world, I have always had a sense of adventure and yearning for something bigger.

The first opportunity I had to leave Canandaigua was when I left for college.
