A Busy, "Bussing" City

Introduction:

Getting from place to place in Sao Paulo can be quite difficult, since it is a huge city. There are many different types of transportation on which people rely to get them from one place to another -- the subway system, buses, cars, Uber and taxis. I have only been able to test out a few modes of transportation, but my favorite so far is the BRT, which stands for Bus Rapid Transit.

How do people get around?:

Although there is a subway system in Sao Paulo, it is not used as much as people use the subway in New York. The subway system covers just the inner core of the city, so it does not extend to the periphery (the outermost edges). The city is that big!

Most people in Sao Paulo use buses to get around the city. The buses go everywhere! It costs 4 reiais, which is equivalent to $1.20 USD. You can also transfer from bus to bus without an extra cost, which is definitely something I can't do most of the time in New York City.

In speaking more specifically about buses, there are regular buses that drive on the streets with cars. However there is also BRT, as I mentioned before. BRT is a system in which the buses get their own lanes and highways to drive on that are elevated above the city streets. This makes them reach each destination in a fast, efficient manner.
