Weekly Activities
Weekly activities allow students to remain
engaged and up-to-date on the Journeys throughout the year.
It is extremely important to sustain students’ connection
to the Journeys, because their enthusiasm is what drives their
interest! In the past, weekly activities have included:
Using the Logbook
- Read-alouds
- Group presentations
- Creating an illustrated timeline of interesting events
- Tracking data from logbook for graphs
- Creating weekly travel guides
Maintaining a Map of the Voyage
- Appoint a weekly classroom navigator to mark the travelers’
location
- Plot the travelers’ location using longitude and
latitude
- Use the map to measure distances
Communicating with the Travelers
- Create an ongoing classroom “parking lot”,
where you can post a list of questions students have about
the Journey.
- Send emails to the travelers
- Read Journals (updated weekly)
- Ask questions (using the website or email)
